More to come!

Reif's Tavern
For 66 years, Reif's Tavern has been a fixture of the Yorkville neighborhood. It has maintained the same warmth and intimacy of the neighborhood my grandparents settled into when they moved to 302 East 92nd Street and established Reif's Tavern in 1942. It remains one of the oldest family own taverns on the Upper East Side. It is an authentic neighborhood tavern that is hard to find the likes of anywhere these days and it remains a meeting place for Yorkville residents.

Since the start of the construction of the 2nd Avenue Subway in March of 2007, we have seen our cozy neighborhood unravel. The tavern (located just steps off of Second Avenue) which thrives on the foot traffic of our neighbors has had a great loss of income. Especially on key holidays such as St. Patrick's Day on which we lost over half of our income because our street access was blocked off this year. Each day brings a new obstacle from the subway's construction. Whether it is an underground explosion from a transformer, holes in the street, obstructed sidewalks or street closures, there has not been a single day since the beginning of the project where pedestrians and potential customers have not had to battle the chaos that has been produced. There has also been an overwhelming amount of dirt, dust, and garbage collecting around the tavern from the construction affecting the overall physical condition of the Tavern's exterior.

For over six and a half decades we have been proud to watch this neighborhood withstand numerous issues including national economic recession, but never have we witnessed an impact so great on the welfare of ours and other local businesses. It is devastating to think that our 66 and half year old piece of history might fall victim to this chaos and not be able to see the next chapter of this great neighborhood begin when the subway finally begins operating.
